Fluminense has announced that it has extended the contract of its 45-year-old legendary goalkeeper, Fabio, for another two years.
Fluminense, one of Brazil's historic football clubs, has made an important decision regarding its experienced goalkeeper, Fabio. The club announced that the contract of its 45-year-old veteran player has been extended until December 2027.
Fabio, whose current contract was set to expire at the end of 2026, will thus continue his presence on the pitch for two more years. Preparing to add new achievements to his career, the experienced goalkeeper will step into his fifth year wearing the Fluminense jersey next season. The club's statement highlighted that Fabio has long become one of the team's symbols and holds the title of the player with the most appearances in football history.
Last August, while guarding the goal for Fluminense in the Copa Sudamericana, Fabio played his 1,391st official match, surpassing the record of English goalkeeper Peter Shilton and becoming the footballer with the most official matches played in world football history.
The experienced goalkeeper's ability to play at the top level for many years without suffering injuries is met with respect by football fans and sports authorities alike. With his new contract, Fabio is expected to add new successes to his playing career.
