Breaking news: Ali Koç announces candidacy!

Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç has announced that he will be a candidate for president once again.

In a statement to an AA reporter, Ali Koç thanked Sadettin Saran, who had taken steps toward a presidential candidacy.

Evaluating the meeting he held with Saran, Koç stated the following:

"First of all, I would like to thank Mr. Sadettin Saran and his team members, who took steps to become a presidential candidate in our ordinary elective general assembly, who have worked seriously since the first day of this process, who have made statements and approaches in line with the interests of Fenerbahçe, and who have taken every step in a highly transparent and constructive manner within the framework of respect. I believe that the meeting we held with them today will be an important turning point for the future of our Fenerbahçe. We exchanged useful ideas on a wide variety of topics and held the necessary consultations regarding our common denominator, our love for Fenerbahçe."

Reminding that he had previously announced he would not be a candidate for the presidency again, Koç said, "In some of the statements I made previously, I had expressed that I would not be a candidate in our upcoming general assembly. However, in the continuation of those same statements, I had also said that I could reconsider my decision in the event of an extraordinary situation. As is known, it is evident that as the Fenerbahçe Sports Club, including the period before us, our community has been subjected to systematic and increasing attacks both on and off the field in the last 20 years."

Emphasizing that they have decided to stand behind the struggle they have initiated, President Koç concluded his words as follows:

"As a community, we continue to take a stand and fight against all these attacks, just as we did on July 3, 2011, and April 4, 2015. The struggle we have started for our club to reach bright days must continue with determination. In the steps to follow, we must fight as a whole community against the swamp that Turkish football is in and the organized evils. In this direction, I hereby inform the public that I have decided to be a candidate in our general assembly, the exact date of which will be announced by our club next week."
