Fenerbahçe player Mert Hakan Yandaş, Galatasaray player Metehan Baltacı, and referee Zorbay Küçük have been detained as part of a wide-ranging operation targeting betting allegations in football.
The betting investigation, which has caused a major stir in the football world, continues with new detentions. As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Fenerbahçe footballer Mert Hakan Yandaş and Galatasaray's Metehan Baltacı, as well as referee Zorbay Küçük, have been detained.
IT HAS EMERGED THAT FOOTBALLERS AND REFEREES PLACED BETS
The prosecutor's office issued a statement regarding the footballers found to have placed bets. It was reported that Galatasaray's Metehan Baltacı placed bets on his own team's match. It was determined that Fenerbahçe's Mert Hakan Yandaş placed bets through a third party. These findings have caused a major shock in the football community.
DETENTION PROCEDURES ALSO UNDERWAY FOR BANDIRMASPOR AND SERİKSPOR
On the other hand, it was reported that efforts are ongoing to detain Tolga Kalender from Bandırmaspor and Erhan Çelenk from Serik Spor. No statement has been made regarding the detention procedures for these individuals at this time, but it is stated that the investigation has been expanded and efforts are being made to reach other names.
PENALTY FROM THE TURKISH FOOTBALL FEDERATION
Within the scope of the betting investigation, Metehan Baltacı is among the footballers who were given disciplinary penalties by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF). Baltacı had been given a 9-month ban from football activities on charges of "betting."
SEARCH AT MERT HAKAN YANDAŞ'S HOME
New findings related to betting are expected to be uncovered as a result of the searches conducted at Mert Hakan Yandaş's home. In addition to the detained footballers, other actions taken within the scope of the investigation are being closely monitored.
This operation shows that the pressure on the higher levels of the football community is increasing and that legal processes against those involved in betting incidents are progressing rapidly. The scope of the betting scandal is widening from football to executives, and the investigation is being deepened.
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE STATEMENT:
Within the scope of the second part of the series of investigations conducted by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, known to the public as "Betting Investigations in Football";
As a result of data obtained from the MASAK Presidency and legal betting sites, open-source research, analysis studies conducted on (101) footballers who received bans from football activities at the Professional Football Disciplinary Board's meeting dated 13.11.2025 and numbered 27, and other evidence;
-A total of (27) footballers, including professional footballer Metehan BALTACI of the Galatasaray Sports Club football team, who were determined to have placed bets on their own teams' matches,
-Fenerbahçe Sports Club professional footballer Mert Hakan YANDAŞ, who was determined to have placed bets on legal betting sites through someone else,
-(5) individuals, including Ankaraspor Club owner Ahmet OKATAN, Ankaraspor Club President Mehmet Emin KATİPOĞLU, Nazilli Belediyespor President Şahin KAYA, and 2 coaches, who were determined to be involved in match-fixing attempts regarding the Ankaraspor-Nazilli Belediyespor football match played on 28/04/2024,
-A total of 6 individuals, including 1 footballer, due to the determination of an agreement to influence the match result regarding the Ümraniyespor - Giresunspor football match played on 24/12/2023,
-(7) individuals, including former Adanademirspor Sports Club president Murat SANCAK, former football referee and current sports commentator Ahmet Çakar and his wife, and top-class referee Zorbay KÜÇÜK, who were determined to have suspicious financial transactions as a result of the examination of bank accounts,
In accordance with the simultaneous arrest, detention, search, and seizure instructions issued to the Istanbul Police Department as of 07:15 today for a total of (46) suspects located in our province of Istanbul and 16 different provinces for the crime of "Opposition to the Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports," (35) suspects have been apprehended and detained. It has been determined that (5) suspects are abroad, and efforts to apprehend the other suspects are continuing.
