Carlo Ancelotti: 'Arda is not ready'
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti stated that Arda Güler is not yet fully ready to play.
Ancelotti answered questions about Arda Güler during the press conference following their 3-0 home victory against Portugal's Braga in the UEFA Champions League, a result that guaranteed their advancement from the group stage.
Responding to a question about why he did not give Arda playing time despite him being in the squad for the Braga match and the team having a very comfortable lead, the Italian manager said, "We are taking close care of him. He is coming off two significant injuries and has been participating in all team training sessions for about a week. When Arda reaches 100%, he will get time on the pitch."
Meanwhile, the Spanish press criticized Carlo Ancelotti's decision, noting that he did not give Arda Güler a chance despite having a 3-0 lead by the 61st minute and using all five of his substitution slots.
The newspaper Marca, which has recently drawn attention for dedicating an unusually large amount of space to news about Arda Güler, immediately launched a poll on its website after the match with the question, "What do you think about Arda not playing?"
In the poll, which received over 5,000 votes in a short time, 66% of respondents answered, "Bad, today was the perfect day for him to make his debut," while 34% answered, "Good, there are other players who need more playing time."
The commentary in the newspaper stated, "The fans came to see Arda. Although not seeing the Turkish player was a big disappointment, at least they encountered a great Brahim Diaz. Either something happened to Arda Güler, or there is no sense in Ancelotti making such a decision. It was a very comfortable match for Arda to be played."
The Real Madrid-Braga match was also watched from the stands by A National Team manager Vincenzo Montella.
