Coach Celal Gürsoy dies after fall at home

Renowned national rower and coach Celal Gürsoy has passed away following an accident at his home in Bodrum. The sports community is in deep mourning over Gürsoy's loss.

Coach Celal Gürsoy dies after fall at home

Celal Gürsoy, who lived in Bodrum and was the founder of the Halikarnas Rowing Club, was severely injured after falling at his home. The 75-year-old Gürsoy was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved despite all medical interventions.

Representing Turkey as a national rower between 1966 and 1974, Gürsoy served as both an athlete and a coach at Galatasaray.

Gürsoy, who ranked 12th in Europe in 1969, won numerous medals in international competitions. He worked as a coach in Germany between 1980 and 1984 and received a diploma from the Ratzeburg Rowing Academy.

In addition to his athletic career, Gürsoy also produced significant works as an author. He was known for books such as "Barter Handbook," "History of Rowing at Galatasaray 1," and "Rowing at the Olympics." Spending his retirement years in Bodrum, Gürsoy introduced many people to the sport of rowing through the Halikarnas Rowing Club he founded there.

Gürsoy, who was married and a father of two daughters, had his passing announced by the Rowing Federation with a message of condolence.
