Dursun Özbek makes statement on Super Cup and TFF elections!

Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe took to the pitch at the 11 Nisan Stadium to face each other in the Super Cup match.

The yellow-red team took a 1-0 lead in the 1st minute with a goal by Mauro Icardi. Before the kickoff following the goal could even be taken, the yellow-navy players headed to the locker room and withdrew from the pitch.

The match referee Volkan Bayarslan and his assistants waited for a while and, after being certain that Fenerbahçe would not return, abandoned the match in the 4th minute.

Following the match, Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek made statements.

In his statement, Dursun Özbek said: "I say this with sadness, we were not expecting such a situation. Instead of letting the fans in Şanlıurfa watch a derby, we experienced strange, nonsensical things. This is a very important cup, the 100th-anniversary cup. While there was the joy of having this derby watched, we encountered something we never expected. The proceeds of this match were going to go as aid to earthquake victims. One side is full, the other side is empty. I am very saddened. We have been humiliated before the world. The mission of Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe is beyond these things. Is it not a pity for the children in the U19 team? Why are you using these children for your own purposes? A Super Cup final that will go down in history badly. Who benefited from bringing it to this state? The coming days will become even more tense. I am in favor of this tension ending. This final did not suit either them or us. I would like people to think once more. It was not good at all."

Continuing his words, the Galatasaray President stated: "I came to the protocol area. No executive from Fenerbahçe came there. Normally, they were supposed to come there. So many scenarios were mentioned that we did not expect it to be like this. I have been here for two or three days. I have not seen such love. The people of Urfa embraced us."

TFF'S ELECTION DECISION

Regarding the federation's election decision, Dursun Özbek said: "It was foreseen that the federation would go to elections. The federation did what was necessary. May it be auspicious. It cannot happen suddenly from today to tomorrow. We will elect more than 100 people. I think the time in between is reasonable. Everyone should understand this. The federation can make the early election decision. The federation has made this decision and announced it. Is 20 days so important for a federation? One must also respect the federation's decision. They made this decision while there was still a long time ahead of them. I think there is another motive behind questioning the federation's decision."

Dursun Özbek said: "We need to control ourselves. As the Galatasaray President, I call on all sports stakeholders to act with common sense."
