Extra team for the Champions League: Another league secures its spot
The excitement of the quarter-finals in European cups has concluded, and the semi-finalists have taken the stage. After the Premier League, the second and final league to send an extra team to the Champions League next season has been confirmed.
The quarter-final second legs of the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, organized by UEFA, were completed between April 15-17.
In the Champions League, Arsenal, PSG, Inter, and Barcelona; in the Europa League, Manchester United, Tottenham, Athletic Bilbao, and Bodo/Glimt; and in the Conference League, Chelsea, Djurgarden, Fiorentina, and Real Betis have advanced to the semi-finals.
Under the new system implemented in European cups this season, it was decided that two national leagues would be granted an extra quota for the Champions League based on their performance in previous seasons.
While Spain and Italy benefited from this privilege in the 2024/25 season, the league that has earned the second extra quota right for the 2025/26 season has also been determined.
Following the first legs of the Champions League quarter-finals, the Premier League secured its extra quota, and after the second-leg matches, LaLiga became the second league to obtain this privilege.
Thus, the team that finishes the season in fifth place in LaLiga in the 2025/26 season will also receive a ticket to the Champions League.
Here are the top 5 in LaLiga, where Barcelona is the leader and the 32nd week is ongoing:
- Barcelona
- Real Madrid
- Atletico Madrid
- Athletic Bilbao
- Villarreal
