Fatih Altaylı reacts to Dursun Özbek over Murat Kurum! 'It is not your place!'

AKP's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Murat Kurum visited Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, and Fenerbahçe yesterday (January 17) as part of his election campaign.

Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek stated during the press conference held after Kurum's visit, "My personal opinion is that the Minister is a chance for Istanbul. I am extremely confident that he will continue his activities specifically within the framework of Istanbul's needs."

REACTION FROM FATİH ALTAYLI TO DURSUN ÖZBEK

Journalist Fatih Altaylı reacted to Özbek's words.

In a video he published on his own YouTube channel, Altaylı criticized Dursun Özbek, saying, "You cannot make political decisions or give political messages on our behalf."

Altaylı continued with the following statements:

"Dursun Özbek, by what right do you say 'he is suitable' on behalf of a community that includes me and many others who think like me? You cannot. You do not have the right to say that. You cannot say this for Ekrem İmamoğlu either. Do not misunderstand, I am not saying this just for Murat Kurum. You cannot say it for me, for Murat Kurum, but you cannot say it for Ekrem İmamoğlu in general, or for any other candidate who might come; you cannot say it. You can say, 'We wish for a gentlemanly race as a community.' You can say, 'We hope the winner will be beneficial to Istanbul.' But you cannot say 'He is suitable' or 'We are behind him.' What is going on, brother? I mean, if you are giving support to a politician on behalf of a community for them to win, then your own suitability for that seat becomes a matter of debate, Mr. Dursun Özbek; you do not have the right to say this. You cannot represent the club I am a member of—and I believe I am a member of the club for longer than Dursun Özbek is—in this way. This one is suitable, that one is not. It is not your place; you cannot make political decisions or give political messages on our behalf. Please, no president of any community should do this."
