Fatih Terim's assessment of the new foreign player rule

Responding to questions from media members at Galatasaray’s ordinary elective general assembly, Fatih Terim shared his thoughts regarding the new 10+4 foreign player rule announced by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).

As in previous discussions, Terim stated that he remains skeptical of restrictions placed on players. Expressing his general approach to the current system, Terim said, “I have explained my perspective before. If it were possible, I am not in favor of bans. The most correct practice is one that serves the interests of the clubs and the benefit of Turkish football.”

Fatih Terim also touched upon rules implemented in the past, recalling his words: “I said it back then too; 14 Turkish players were mandatory, not 14 foreign ones. Foreign players were free; you could sign as many as you wanted.” Emphasizing that Turkey should not lose time in the developing and changing world of football, the successful coach added, “In these days we have reached, in a world where everything is changing, transforming, and renewing, we should no longer have too many delays in these areas.”

While pointing out the importance of designing decisions in a robust manner, Terim said, “A correct decision must be made, and it must be pursued. They will do it; the federation already has the capacity to do this. It will be discussed with the clubs.”
