Fenerbahçe Beko defeats Olympiacos at home!
Fenerbahçe Beko defeated Olympiacos 79-77 in a closely contested match in the final minutes of their EuroLeague Week 6 game at home.
In the sixth week of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Fenerbahçe Beko defeated the Greek representative Olympiacos 79-77.
Starting the game with consecutive three-pointers from Pierre, Fenerbahçe took an 11-1 lead in the first two and a half minutes, with 9 points coming from that player alone.
Displaying an effective defensive performance, the yellow-navy blues did not return empty-handed from fast breaks, further extending the lead. Fenerbahçe Beko finished the first quarter, in which Pierre scored 14 points, ahead 29-14.
While the second period saw baskets from both sides, Fenerbahçe Beko led 38-22 at the five-minute mark of the quarter. The yellow-navy blues went into the locker room with a 46-33 lead.
Olympiacos started the second half quickly. In the first 4 minutes, during which Fenerbahçe Beko scored only 2 points, the Greek representative went on a 10-2 run to bring the score to 48-43. In the remainder of the quarter, Olympiacos reduced the deficit to 1 point, entering the final quarter with a score of 58-57.
The final part of the match began with exchange of points, and after Wilbekin hit 3 free throws, the lead increased to 4 points: 65-61. In the final stretch, following consecutive fouls, Johnathan Motley was fouled out with 5 minutes remaining.
With 2 minutes and 24 seconds left, Olympiacos closed the gap for the first time to tie the game: 74-74. After a timeout, Fenerbahçe Beko found points with Papagiannis in two consecutive possessions to bring the score to 79-74, while Peters' three-pointer reduced the lead to 2 again: 79-77. Both teams failed to score on their final possessions, and Fenerbahçe Beko left the court with a 79-77 victory.
Fenerbahçe Beko secured their 5th win after 6 games, while Olympiacos suffered their 3rd defeat.
