FIBA Champions League finalists to join NBA European League

At a workshop held at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) headquarters in Switzerland, representatives from the NBA and European clubs gathered to make key decisions regarding the NBA Europe project. According to the statement released following the meeting, the team that wins the 11th season of the FIBA Champions League, along with the finalists, will earn direct entry into the first season of the new league to be launched through the partnership between the NBA and FIBA.

Basketball Champions League CEO Patrick Comninos stated, "We are pleased to confirm that the champion and finalists of the 11th season of the FIBA Champions League will qualify for the inaugural season of the NBA and FIBA-supported league, which is expected to begin in the fall of 2027."

Comninos also emphasized that the joint work with the NBA would yield positive results for European basketball, adding, "We are very pleased that sporting success will be an integral part of this new organization. We believe that our collaboration with the NBA will elevate European basketball to a better level."

In the 2026-2027 season, the Basketball Champions League group stage matches will begin on October 6. Teams that demonstrate success in the tournament will take the stage to compete in the new league, and this historic collaboration is expected to bring a fresh perspective to European basketball.
