Flash move from TFF following 'compensation-seeking' referees
Following the trend of Super Lig referees hiring lawyers to file compensation lawsuits over insults on social media, the TFF has made a surprise move.
Referees, who have become the main focus of controversy in Turkish football, have sparked new debates by hiring lawyers to file compensation lawsuits against abusive and insulting comments on social media.
According to a report by Tahir Kum from Türkiye Gazetesi, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has introduced a new regulation following the escalation of referee-lawyer relationships and the fact that some referees have been spending constant time in courthouse corridors.
Accordingly, the TFF has established a new legal department within the Central Referee Board (MHK).
The federation has reached an agreement with lawyer Sercan Teker, who has served at the TFF for many years and most recently held the position of Dispute Resolution Committee (UÇK) coordinator, for this unit. The federation will manage all legal processes concerning referees—especially social media insult lawsuits—through this board. The new unit, led by lawyer Teker, will handle all legal matters related to the MHK as well as the individual lawsuits of the referees.
