Format of the Turkish Cup may change: 100 million Euro offer from Saudi Arabia to the TFF

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation, which will host the Super Cup match to be played between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe on December 30, has approached the TFF with a new proposal. 

According to the report by Fanatik Newspaper; the details of the potential agreement are as follows: 

The Super Cup will be played in Riyadh and Jeddah, including the 2033-2034 season. 

THE FORMAT OF THE CUP MAY CHANGE

The Ziraat Turkish Cup will also be organized under the hosting of Saudi Arabia in the same manner. The detail here is that the cup format will change. The Saudis' request is to turn the final stage of the organization, which is currently played in an elimination format, into a final four format. The request is for the 4 clubs remaining in the final 4 to play matches in Saudi Arabia for 3 days. Those who lose in the first day's matches will play a third-place match 2 days later. The winners will advance to the final.

In the report, it was noted that all expenses would be covered by Saudi Arabia, and that Anadolu clubs, in addition to the big 4, could also generate revenue.

WHAT WILL BE THE TFF'S RESPONSE?

The Turkish Football Federation has not yet given a clear response to the Saudis' offer. TFF President Mehmet Büyükekşi has a principle decision to only sign contracts that cover his own term. The first formula on the table is to sign a 4+6 year contract. After 4 years, the new TFF management and the clubs will have the option to continue the contract or terminate the agreement. 

BÜYÜKEKŞİ WILL TAKE IT TO THE CLUBS ASSOCIATION

Mehmet Büyükekşi and his team plan to take this offer to the Union of Clubs Foundation of the Super League. The TFF management, which will explain the potential gains and the draft proposal to the clubs, will give an official response to Saudi Arabia's offer if a joint decision emerges from the union.

100 MILLION EURO OFFER

Saudi Arabia offered 100 million Euros for a 10-year agreement. 50 percent of the source will be allocated for the Super Cup and 50 percent for the Turkish Cup. The prize amount for participants may change from year to year.

If the final four in the Turkish Cup is implemented, there will be a 5 million Euro prize pool. According to the ranking, 4 teams will be awarded 2 million, 1.5 million, 900 thousand Euros, and 600 thousand Euros. Even the team that takes 4th place will put roughly 18 million TL into its coffers at today's exchange rate. In the current season, the participation share for the league is 38 million 30 thousand TL! The total income of the teams in the middle ranks is 60-70 million TL.

In the Super Cup, a 2.2 million Euro 'participation fee' is guaranteed for both clubs. The winner will be given an additional 600 thousand Euros as a success bonus. The team that lifts the cup will earn 84 million TL, and the loser will earn 66 million TL.
