Former Trabzonspor president Atay Aktuğ passes away
Former Trabzonspor president and player Atay Aktuğ has passed away.
In a post shared on Trabzonspor's official social media account regarding the passing of Atay Aktuğ, it was stated that the news of his death was learned with deep sorrow, and condolences were extended to his family, loved ones, and the community, with prayers for God's mercy upon the deceased.
Born in Trabzon on April 11, 1945, Atay Aktuğ played for İdmanocağı and Akçaabat Sebatspor during his football career before wearing the Trabzonspor jersey and serving as team captain. Aktuğ, who served as the Executive in Charge of Press Relations in the administration led by Mustafa Günaydın during the 1981-1982 season, held the position of Trabzonspor Club President between December 21, 2003, and December 18, 2005.
A graduate of the Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Architecture, Aktuğ also served as the Mayor of Trabzon between 1989 and 1994.
Known for his dedication to the city and the club, it was learned that Atay Aktuğ's funeral will be held tomorrow (Sunday) following the afternoon prayer at İskenderpaşa Mosque.

Trabzonspor Club President Ertuğrul Doğan also included the following statements in his condolence message regarding Aktuğ's passing: "I have learned with deep sorrow of the passing of Atay Aktuğ, one of our club's former presidents, former captains, and a valuable figure who served Trabzon for many years.
I had the opportunity to visit him and have a long conversation in recent months. It was very precious for me to see his commitment to Trabzonspor, his excitement, and the deep love he held for our club once again up close.
Receiving the news of his passing after this meaningful meeting has deepened our sorrow even further. Atay Aktuğ, who represented our jersey successfully for years, then made significant contributions to our club during his presidency, and brought us the joy of the Turkish Cup, will always maintain his exceptional place in Trabzonspor's history.
I pray for God's mercy upon the deceased; I extend my condolences to his family, our community, and his loved ones."
