Galatasaray objects to foreign referee
Galatasaray has taken the appointment of a foreign referee for the derby against Fenerbahçe in the 25th week of the Süper Lig to the Arbitration Board. The yellow-red club has filed an official objection to the TFF's decision to appoint Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic.
Galatasaray Club has opposed the appointment of a foreign referee to officiate the Fenerbahçe derby to be played in the 25th week of the Süper Lig. The yellow-reds have challenged the Turkish Football Federation's (TFF) decision to assign the derby to Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic and have taken the matter to the Arbitration Board.
OFFICIAL STEP FROM GALATASARAY
The TFF had decided to appoint a foreign referee for the big derby to be played on Monday, February 24, and had assigned Slavko Vincic from the Football Association of Slovenia. While this decision sparked debate in the football community, the Galatasaray management formalized the situation and initiated the objection process.
According to a report by HT Spor, the yellow-red club filed an application with the Arbitration Board, arguing that domestic referees should officiate the derby. Galatasaray requested that the decision be re-evaluated, stating that the foreign referee decision could undermine confidence in the refereeing system in the Süper Lig.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Galatasaray had previously opposed the idea of appointing a foreign referee to the derby.
The TFF had invited the presidents of Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe to a meeting at the TFF on Tuesday, but Galatasaray did not attend this meeting.
Yesterday, TFF President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu announced that a foreign head referee would be appointed to the derby.
With the statement made by the TFF today, it was announced that the derby would be officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic.
