Galatasaray team doctor's statement on Icardi: Unfortunately, surgery is mandatory
Galatasaray Football A Team Doctor Yener İnce responded to speculation regarding Icardi walking after his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear, stating, "An ACL tear does not prevent walking. Unfortunately, surgery is mandatory. We will make the arrangements."
Galatasaray Football A Team Doctor Dr. Yener İnce provided an update on the injury status of Mauro Icardi and Ismail Jakobs. Regarding Mauro Icardi's health status and planned surgery, Dr. Yener İnce stated the following:
“When an anterior cruciate ligament is torn, a certain period of time must pass before preparing for surgery. We will wait for that period. We will organize the operation after the bone edema in the knee decreases. There has been a lot of speculation, such as 'he can walk, so maybe the ligament isn't torn.' Galatasaray is a very serious club. There is no question of making a statement that would mislead the fans. Depending on the severity of the position in which the anterior cruciate ligament is torn, bone edema and intra-articular edema vary, so some players may have difficulty walking; but in most cases, it does not create a situation that makes it very difficult for the patient to walk. The fact that Mauro Icardi walked that day does not mean his anterior cruciate ligament is not torn. I wish it hadn't torn; but it tore along with a meniscus tear. There is also damage in the posterolateral corner area. Unfortunately, surgery is mandatory. We will make the arrangements.”
"WE HAVE BEGUN HIS TREATMENT"
Regarding Ismail Jakobs, Yener said, “Ismail felt pain in his Achilles tendon and slightly above it in the first half of our last league match. There is bleeding where the Achilles tendon attaches to the muscle. A part of the tendon continues inside the muscle. There is also a tear in that continuing area. We have begun his treatment. Tomorrow, we will add a special injection treatment and continue the treatment process. The rehabilitation process has begun. Since the location of the injury is very important, we need to proceed carefully. We need to manage the time well. We will make a statement about when he will return in the coming days, but it is too early to say anything right now.”
