Mourinho's sensational jab at Okan Buruk
Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho made statements following their 4-1 victory over Trabzonspor. The Portuguese manager drew attention to the controversial moments of the match and also touched upon the tension experienced with Okan Buruk after the Galatasaray derby.
Fenerbahçe defeated Trabzonspor 4-1 at home in the 30th week of the Trendyol Super League, despite falling 1-0 behind, reducing the point gap with the top of the table to 3.
Speaking at the press conference held after the match played at Ülker Stadium, Jose Mourinho stated that the changes he made to the squad were not a surprise.
Emphasizing that they analyzed their opponents in detail, the Portuguese manager said the following:
"They have a good manager, I like him a lot. We expected them to play with runs behind the defense by hugging the touchline. For this reason, we decided to start with a 4-man defense. Maximin worked very hard to return and regain his form. He had given signals of his arrival in the Galatasaray match. He wasn't in a condition to play 90 minutes, but he showed how important he is for us in 60-65 minutes."
Touching on the controversial penalty position in the match, Mourinho reacted to the VAR decisions, saying, "I don't understand why the VAR referee didn't call the center referee. He had gone to the monitor in the Bodrum and Galatasaray matches. We had a clear penalty, it could have changed the story of the match very clearly. After that, our opponent scored and we had to go into a difficult second half."
"A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS"
Mourinho gave the following response to the question regarding the incident with Okan Buruk after the derby:
"I don't want to answer about the championship race because my answer to this could be dangerous. I think a picture is worth a thousand words. If I tell you what happened, it will be my version. The Galatasaray manager has his own different version. Words don't have much meaning, images speak for themselves. I'm sure Hollywood watched what happened too."
Expressing his satisfaction with the fans chanting for İrfan Can, Mourinho used the following expressions on this subject:
"But I am sad that they don't do it for every player. Fenerbahçe has 35 million managers. Only one manager makes the decisions. It might be right or wrong, but one person makes these decisions. Them shouting doesn't make me make a different decision. İrfan, like İsmail, experienced injuries. He joined the team step by step yesterday. The fans don't know these kinds of things, but one person does."
