Hidden arsenal in fan bus: flares and knives seized
During a search conducted before the match between Kocaelispor and Göztepe, dozens of flares hidden inside a drum and numerous cutting tools were found on an away-team bus; judicial proceedings have been initiated against 7 individuals.
Security measures were increased ahead of the Kocaelispor-Göztepe match held during the 30th week of the Trendyol Super League. Police teams stationed around Kocaeli Stadium stopped the bus carrying the visiting team's fans and conducted a detailed search.
During the inspection, 80 flares were discovered, which had been specially hidden inside a drum on the bus. In addition, the teams seized 16 extra flares, 130 sparklers, and one high-intensity smoke bomb. Furthermore, the search uncovered 8 machetes, 1 large cleaver, 13 knives of various sizes, various piercing and cutting tools, and one butterfly knife.
In connection with the incident, legal proceedings were initiated against a total of 7 people under Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports. It was reported that the examination of camera footage is ongoing to identify other suspects.
Police officials emphasized that security measures will continue to be implemented meticulously at matches.
