La Liga President comments on goal-line technology
La Liga President Javier Tebas spoke about the controversial Yamal incident during the Real Madrid vs. Barcelona match. The president argued that goal-line technology is not useful and defended the decision not to implement it.
In La Liga, the goal incident involving Barcelona during last week's El Clasico, which ended in a 3-2 victory for Real Madrid, became a major talking point. The incident was reviewed by VAR, but due to a lack of sufficient camera angles, the VAR referee ruled that there was "no sufficient evidence that the ball crossed the line," and no goal was awarded.
La Liga President Javier Tebas argued that the much-discussed goal-line technology is impractical. Regarding the issue, Tebas stated, "The first reason I don't want it is that it is not a perfect technology. Goals like this (the Yamal incident) only happen 3 or 4 times a year. We cannot spend 5-6 million Euros on this. I would prefer to have more cameras installed."
MATCHES TO BE PLAYED OUTSIDE SPAIN
Javier Tebas recently announced that La Liga matches will now be played outside of Spain. Tebas said, "I don't know when it will happen. I think that starting from the 2025-2026 season, La Liga teams will begin playing league matches abroad. The first stop will be America. Other leagues are catching up to us, and we need to do something."
