Lionel Messi: 'I was sure I would become a World Champion'

The reigning World Cup champion, Lionel Messi, made significant remarks regarding that tournament.

Stating that he regrets his actions after the Netherlands match, Lionel Messi said, "It bothers me when people talk off the pitch. I have never done that. I think van Gaal did it on purpose. I don't like those kinds of things. After the celebration I did in the Netherlands match, I felt very regretful and said to myself, 'What a fool you are'."

Lionel Messi, who also stated that he was sure he would become a World Champion, continued his remarks with the following words:

"I was sure I would become a world champion. I knew that God wanted me to be a world champion. I really went through bad times, but in the end, it happened. Receiving the support of all the Argentine people is like a victory for me. Today, at least 95 percent of the country loves me."

Stating that it was wonderful to touch the trophy after becoming champion, Lionel Messi said, "After winning the World Cup, when I went to the trophy, I started repeating 'hello'. It was the first time I was seeing it. It had a light, it was shining. It was wonderful to be able to touch it," and concluded his remarks with these words:

"When I missed the penalty in the Poland match, I started trying different ways of shooting in training. Just like in the old days, I started watching the goalkeeper and taking risks until the last moment. I took many penalties against Rulli and Armani; I didn't shoot much against Martinez."
