Mourinho takes a jab at Ali Koç after Benfica match! 'It's clear what is missing'
Following Fenerbahçe's 3-2 loss to Benfica in a friendly match, head coach Jose Mourinho pointed out the team's shortcomings and emphasized what the club needs to do.
Fenerbahçe was defeated 3-2 by Benfica in the Eusebio Cup held in Portugal. Speaking after the match, head coach Jose Mourinho evaluated the team's general situation and drew attention to the deficiencies.
Mourinho stated that he was satisfied with the camp process, saying, "We are trying to build a strong family environment. There is good communication between the players and the staff. Everyone worked very well throughout the camp." However, he expressed that the team needs more development following the loss against Benfica.
TEAM STATUS AND DEFICIENCIES
Mourinho said, "We are ready, but at the same time, we are not. We need more. We must address our shortcomings before the Feyenoord match." Noting specifically that they had not worked on set pieces, Mourinho said he was not worried about this, but that the team's overall performance needed to be improved.
TRANSFER EXPECTATIONS
The status of Milan Skriniar and Marco Asensio, who are on Fenerbahçe's transfer agenda, remains uncertain. President Ali Koç, in his statement at the Divan Board Meeting, gave hope to the fans by saying, "Our two new transfers will be on the field in the Feyenoord match." However, the names were not disclosed as the transfers have not yet been finalized.
Mourinho emphasized the importance of transfers, saying, "I cannot make the final touch, the club must," and stated that they need more contributions to play at a high level.
'IT'S CLEAR WHAT IS MISSING'
Stating that they need more, Mourinho used the following expressions:
“We are both ready and not ready, actually. Why are we ready? Because we worked very well and hard with the group here. Why are we not ready? We need more. There are 10 days left until the Feyenoord match, and we can actually see what playing at these high levels means and what kind of image it creates.
Benfica is a much better team than Feyenoord. When we look at today's atmosphere, it was more intense. I think we gave an idea as a team. We performed well in certain parts of the match. If you ask me about the first half, I don't think we played a good game. In the second half, we showed our superiority more. If we look at the 3rd goal, I want to say this very clearly: 'We did not work on set pieces at all throughout the camp,' we left that for the last week.
We did more offensive and defensive work in training. We didn't have any work on set pieces. That's why the 3rd goal we conceded doesn't worry me. We will do our work in this regard very well. The team's situation is clear. I think the President (Ali Koç) thinks the same as me on this point. I think the President sees the things I want as a coach. When we look at the match today, everyone can see what is missing.
I think everyone can clearly see the things that need to be added and the things that need to be done. We have a good team right now. We also experienced difficulties during the match. There are 9 days left. Tomorrow there will be 8 days left until our Champions League match. We won't train tomorrow, we will have our training on Monday. Actually, we have a 7-day period.”
