New FIFA ruling for referees and goalkeepers

FIFA has announced that it has organized various seminars in Zurich, Dubai, and Buenos Aires to prepare the referees who will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.

With the new regulation, a rule aimed at preventing time-wasting by goalkeepers will be implemented in the tournament.

8-SECOND RULE

According to the decision made by FIFA, goalkeepers in Club World Cup matches will be able to hold the ball for a maximum of 8 seconds. If this time is exceeded, a corner kick will be awarded to the opposing team. Under the previous rule, goalkeepers had 6 seconds to release the ball; however, this practice was rarely enforced on the pitch.

On the other hand, the referees participating in the organization will use body cameras. FIFA Referees Committee Chairman Pierluigi Collina stated the following regarding this decision: "We believe that having the opportunity to see what the referee sees is a good chance to offer spectators a new experience, with images taken from a perspective and viewpoint that has never been offered before to evaluate how the referee made the call."
