Okan Buruk: It was a match we deserved and dominated

Buruk made statements at the press conference held after the 2-1 victory against Beşiktaş at RAMS Park.

Stating that they widened the gap by winning, Buruk said, "We wanted to win at our home ground and increase the point gap. Our adaptation and concentration in these matches have always been good. We played with the same seriousness today. We did not give our opponent clear chances throughout the match. We conceded a goal in the final minute. I think goal differences are very important. That is why we are upset. It was a match we deserved, played well in, and dominated. We played against a very good team. A team that plays the passing game well and uses the center very effectively. We finished the match without conceding any clear chances. It was a good match for us."

When reminded that they started the season with a 5-0 defeat to Beşiktaş in the Turkcell Super Cup, Buruk noted the following:

"We go through a preparation process every season. The biggest disadvantage for us was having many players who went to the European Championship and Copa America. Our national team players came back late without being able to rest. Especially the problems we experienced in defense caused us to start the season poorly. We did not play with an original left-back today either. Matches where Davinson was absent in terms of defense were difficult. However, these things will happen during the season. This is a process. Right now, apart from injuries, we are a team that is finding its form and continuing to win. Our claims and goals in Europe continue. I think we are on the right track. We are in a good position in the Süper Lig. I am very happy with my players, their performances, the team play, and the adaptation of the new transfers."

"BEŞİKTAŞ'S PLAYER QUALITY IS VERY HIGH"

Okan Buruk said that Beşiktaş has one of the best squads in the league.

Emphasizing that they performed well defensively, the yellow-red team's manager expressed his views: "Beşiktaş's player quality is very high. They have some of the most effective players in the league in the attacking third. Not giving this team chances is our success. Beşiktaş is a talented team. They create many chances. Even in the Frankfurt match they lost, they created 2-3 times more chances than today. We gave the ball to the opponent in certain areas, but we did not let them get close to our penalty area. We never defended deep. If we had, we would have conceded chances, but our 8-man block defended correctly."

"WE GAINED AN ADVANTAGE BY WINNING TODAY"

Galatasaray manager Buruk stated that they gained an advantage in the championship race by winning the Beşiktaş derby.

Reminding that they are still at the beginning of the season, Buruk continued his words:

"We gained an advantage by winning today. However, it is very early in the league. All teams have the potential to lose points every week. It is necessary to play and prepare accordingly. We need to continue winning with the same concentration. We need to widen this point gap. We are entering a more difficult schedule in Europe. There will be matches where we will struggle. However, our main goal is to maintain our superiority in the league and enter the top 8 in Europe. We need to adapt to both fronts. There will also be matches where I need to give time to all our players."

"WE HAVE PLAYERS WHO USE SET PIECES WELL AND JUMP WELL"

Buruk attributed the goals they scored from set pieces this season to training and player quality.

The experienced manager concluded his words as follows:

"Especially after Ismail Jakobs arrived, throw-ins became a weapon. We found about 3-4 goals after throw-ins. We have players who use set pieces well and jump well. The average height of our players is also high. We work on these, but it doesn't happen just by working. You need both someone who delivers well and someone who strikes well. We work according to our opponent's formation and their situation in set pieces. This brings us results. We need to continue this. Because set pieces can win you matches."
