Orkun Kökçü blames Roger Schmidt: 'It made me very angry!'

National football player Orkun Kökçü, who plays for Benfica, made statements regarding his days at Benfica.

While stating that he is not satisfied with his role in the Portuguese team, Orkun Kökçü criticized his head coach Roger Schmidt.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Orkun said, "I saw how other players are highlighted in Portugal and at other big clubs. This creates a certain status. From the beginning, I never felt important. Not even by the head coach. I am not someone who bangs on the table or makes demands, but perhaps I was too modest because of the role he gave me."

'I THOUGHT IT WAS THE RIGHT MOVE'

Noting that the decision to go to Benfica was not the right one, Orkun Kökçü said, "When I came to Benfica, I thought it was the right step for my career, that I could improve myself in many ways. However, I cannot say that it was the right one."

'BEING ON THE BENCH MADE ME ANGRY'

Orkun Kökçü stated that head coach Roger Schmidt constantly gave him defensive tasks and that this situation was not good for him, saying, "Schmidt keeps me too far back with all kinds of defensive tasks. If you want to make use of my qualities, there is no need for that. I can find solutions on the pitch, I think forward, I am known for my vertical passes. Even this season, the statistics highlight this. I can still mean much more for Benfica, and perhaps part of my frustration lies there. Being on the bench a few times made me angry and disappointed. I knew that at those very moments, I could have meant a lot for the team."
