During the halftime of the match, Ali Koç, who went to the away section to get information about the situation of Fenerbahçe fans who could not enter the stadium, was targeted by foreign objects thrown from the Göztepe stands while returning.
The attack, in which Koç was pushed from behind and knocked to the ground by a person named Fatih Özkan, drew widespread reaction.
It was announced that Fatih Özkan, who was taken into custody after the incident, did not have an official position in the Göztepe management and was only present at the stadium as an official.
The suspect had been placed under house arrest following the incident.
PRISON SENTENCE NOT SUSPENDED
In the case heard at the İzmir 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance, the defendant Fatih Özkan was sentenced to 7 months and 15 days in prison. Stating that it could not reach a conviction that Özkan would "not commit a crime again," the court did not suspend the sentence and did not convert it into a fine.
