Public lawsuit filed against 41 people accused of insulting Mehmet Büyükekşi!

Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President Mehmet Büyükekşi was protested by those in the stands during Beşiktaş's UEFA Europa Conference League match against Lugano.

Following the reactions, a new development occurred as Büyükekşi left the stadium.

INDICTMENT AGAINST 41 PEOPLE

According to a report by T24, an indictment has been prepared against 41 people on charges of swearing at TFF President Mehmet Büyükekşi.

It has been requested that the suspects be sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1 year and 2 months to 2.5 years, as well as judicial fines.

In the case opened by the prosecutor's office acting ex officio at the Istanbul 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance, the suspects were charged with "chants containing insults" and "publicly insulting a public official due to their duty."

It was stated that the identification of some of the suspects was carried out through cameras located in the stadium.

While nine of the suspects whose statements were taken by the police declared that they had joined in the abusive chanting, 32 of them claimed they did not participate in the chanting, citing various reasons. One of the suspects argued that they did not even go to the match, while another claimed they helped officials to prevent the chanting.

SUSPECTS' STATEMENTS NOT ACCEPTED

The statements of the suspects who denied the accusations were not accepted, with camera footage and police reports cited as the reason.

The prosecutor requested that the suspects be sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1 year and 2 months to 2.5 years and to judicial fines of no less than 50 days. Furthermore, the prosecutor requested that if the suspects are convicted, they be banned from watching sports competitions for the duration of their sentence and for a period of 1 year following the execution of that sentence, and that they be banned from sports management and similar roles for the duration of their sentence.
