Results of the day in the 2026 World Cup European qualifiers

The excitement of the September matches continues in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held jointly by the USA, Canada, and Mexico between June 11 and July 19, 2026.

Seven matches were played in 4 different groups today.

Kosovo defeated visiting Sweden 2-0 to secure their first victory in the group, with one goal coming from Vedat Muriqi. Switzerland, under the management of head coach Murat Yakin, defeated Slovenia by a wide margin and started the qualifiers with 6 points in 2 matches.

ITALY WINS IN 9-GOAL THRILLER

Italy, competing in Group I of the 2026 World Cup European Qualifiers, faced Israel at Nagyerdei Stadium in Hungary. Italy, who fell behind twice, entered the 81st minute of the match leading 4-2. Israel found 2 goals in the 87th and 89th minutes to equalize at 4-4 before the final minute. In the 90th minute of the match, Sandro Tonali scored the 5th goal to secure 3 points for his team. Gennaro Gattuso recorded 3 points in his 2nd consecutive match at the helm of the Azzurri. Italy, having scored a total of 10 goals in the last 2 matches, rose to 9 points in this group, while Norway sits in the lead with 12 points.

In Group L, Croatia defeated Montenegro with 4 goals and made it 4 wins out of 4 in the group. The other team in the group with 12 points, Czechia, has played one more match.
