RTÜK imposes sanctions on broadcasts inciting violence in sports

Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) Chairman Ebubekir Şahin has announced that sanctions will be imposed on broadcasts that incite violence in sports.

In a statement on his social media account, Şahin noted that they are against violence in sports, just as they are against all forms of violence, and condemned the attack on referee Halil Umut Meler during the MKE Ankaragücü-ÇAYKUR Rizespor match.

"WE ARE MONITORING METICULOUSLY"

Reminding that they had issued warnings regarding sports programs and football commentators before the leagues began, Şahin stated, "We are meticulously monitoring sports broadcasts that mislead football viewers and lead the stands toward tension."

Şahin continued as follows:

"It is a great injustice to the football community that matches, which should be played in a spirit of sportsmanship, are instead associated with images of violence. As a result of the examinations conducted by our Supreme Council experts, necessary sanctions will be applied to sports programs that misinform citizens and incite an environment of violence."
