Sad news: Police officer injured at match in Greece passes away

It has been reported that the 31-year-old police officer, who was critically injured by a flare thrown by a fan during incidents at a volleyball match between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos sports clubs in the Greek capital, Athens, on the night of December 7, has passed away.

In a statement from Nikaia Hospital, where he was receiving treatment, it was stated that the officer died today in the intensive care unit.

The 31-year-old police officer, who was severely injured as a result of a flare thrown by a fan during the volleyball match between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, had previously undergone an amputation of one of his legs.

While the suspect who injured the officer was taken into custody, Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis had announced that new measures would be taken to combat violence in sports and that Super League matches would be played behind closed doors until February 12, 2024.
