Super Cup statement from Dursun Özbek! 'I hope Fenerbahçe will also come tomorrow'

Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek and the board of directors have departed for Urfa for the Super Cup match. Dursun Özbek emphasized the importance of the Super Cup match being played in Urfa and the donation of the match proceeds to earthquake victims. He also stated that he hopes Fenerbahçe will participate in the match with their full squad and noted that playing the match in Urfa holds significance for the local people. Özbek expressed that the Super Cup is special for the 100th anniversary of the Republic and should hold an important place in Turkish football history. He added that Galatasaray will arrive in Urfa tomorrow and that he hopes Fenerbahçe will also come with their full squad.

Özbek stated the following:

"Playing the Super Cup here has a special significance. I came earlier to meet with our brothers and sisters affected by the earthquake. It is very important to alleviate people's pain. We will donate the proceeds of the match here to the earthquake victims. It is very important for the people of the region to watch a Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby. We are here, and the team is arriving tomorrow. I hope Fenerbahçe will also come tomorrow. I hear some things, but I don't think they are very accurate. They should come and be the reason for the people of the region to watch this match. 

Beyond just the Super Cup, it is very important that it is played in this region and touches our earthquake-affected brothers and sisters. Hopefully, it will be a very beautiful match on Sunday. Our expectation is for Fenerbahçe to come with their A-team. The Super Cup is the 100th-anniversary cup. It is the cup of the 100th year of our Republic; it would not be right for it to be remembered in any other way or to go down in Turkish football history otherwise.

I don't even think it is right for these things to be discussed in terms of Turkish football. We also have an agreement. As I stated at the beginning of my remarks, why shouldn't we experience the joy of letting our brothers and sisters in Urfa watch the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray derby?
