Support message for Palestine from Kerem Aktürkoğlu

Galatasaray's national football player Kerem Aktürkoğlu has published a message of support for Palestine.

In a post shared on his Instagram account, Aktürkoğlu stated: "I know there are those who hesitate to speak, those who are afraid of saying the wrong thing... But I do not want to live with the reality of sitting silently and not speaking out. We can condemn the attacks on Israel where civilian lives are lost, and at the same time, we can stand against the oppression that has been inflicted upon Palestine for years. Is it right to sit silently and watch the destruction of the Palestinian people?"

The 24-year-old player, who assessed that "what is happening between Israel and Palestine can be interpreted differently by everyone historically. To me, what has been happening for years is the desperate destruction of a people," added the following:

"We do not need historical knowledge to interpret what is happening right now. What we are witnessing at this moment is quite simple: A people under occupation and oppression are being destroyed by a nuclear state fully supported by the western world. This has never been an equal fight, and what is happening right now is a complete massacre. What could be the justification for the slaughter of civilians, the bombing of children's hospitals, and forcing a people to choose between death or displacement, or wiping a country off the map with disproportionate force? This is a situation that must be intervened in. We must not remain spectators to defenseless civilians and children being left without water or electricity and ultimately dying through methods that do not fit within humanity. Praying for peace is not enough; we must not remain silent because the rest of the world is making no effort to prevent this horrific tragedy. He who remains silent against injustice is a mute devil."
