TFF imposes heavy penalties on footballers involved in betting scandal

The Ankaraspor-Nazilli Belediyespor match, which took place on April 28, 2024, in the TFF 2nd League White Group, caused a major public outcry. The fact that neither team took a shot during the match, which ended in a 0-0 draw between playoff-contending Ankaraspor and relegation-battling Nazilli Belediyespor, brought up allegations of a "fixed match."

The Turkish Football Federation's Professional Football Discipline Committee (PFDK), following its investigation into the match, handed down bans to 27 players for violations related to betting and match-fixing. According to the official statement from the TFF, some players received 8-month bans, while others were suspended for 1 year. For example, Canberk Aydemir and Cenk Doğan were sentenced to 1-year bans.

In its decision, the PFDK stated that it had decided to await the outcome of the investigation conducted by the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and to lift the administrative measures on the individuals concerned while continuing the investigation.

The statement made on the TFF's official website is as follows:

'In the meeting of the Professional Football Discipline Committee dated 02.09.2025 and numbered 6, as a result of the investigations conducted in accordance with Article 56 of the Football Disciplinary Instruction regarding the ANKARASPOR-NAZİLLİ BELEDİYESPOR TFF 2nd League White Group match played on 28.04.2024, the files regarding the referrals made to our Committee due to betting and match-fixing violations were separated in terms of betting violations, and the following decisions were made.

1- ABDULLAH BEYTAŞ shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

2- CANBERK AYDEMİR shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

3- CENK DOĞAN shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

4- EKİN KARAKUYU shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

5- EMİN KARS shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

6- ERDEM ÖZYEŞİL shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

7- ÖMER FARUK SEZGİN shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

8- RECEP TAŞBAKIR shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

9- UMUTCAN KELEŞCAN shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

10- AHMET GÖKBAYRAK shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

11- BATUHAN KIRDAROĞLU shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

12- BERAT ARDA KARA shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

13- EKREM ÇALIŞANLAR shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

14- FATİH KIZILKAYA shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

15- FURKAN ELİAÇIK shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

16- KUTSAL MANİCİ shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

17- MUHAMMET EMRE ERKAN shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

18- Although MUHAMMET RAŞİT YÖNDEM was referred to our Committee in accordance with Article 57 of the FDT due to betting activity; NO PENALTY SHALL BE IMPOSED in accordance with Article 14/2 of the FDT,

19- OZAN CAN ORUÇ shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

20- ÖZKAN TAŞTEMUR shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

21- RECEP EFE KOÇAK shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

22- SAVAŞ YORULMAZ shall be punished with a 10-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

23- SERHAT ASLAN shall be punished with a 10-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

24- SÜLEYMAN ENES KARAKAŞ shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

25- ŞAHİN KAYA shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

26- TİBET ÖNİZ shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

27- VOLKAN ERTEN shall be punished with a 1-YEAR BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity,

28- Although YUNUS EMRE KARAKAYA was referred to our Committee in accordance with Article 57 of the FDT due to betting activity; NO PENALTY SHALL BE IMPOSED in accordance with Article 14/2 of the FDT,

29- YUNUS EMRE METİN shall be punished with an 8-MONTH BAN in accordance with Article 57/2 of the FDT due to betting activity, (by majority vote)

30- Regarding the referrals made to our Committee due to the act of match-fixing in accordance with Article 56 of the Football Disciplinary Instruction regarding the ANKARASPOR-NAZİLLİ BELEDİYESPOR TFF 2nd League White Group match played on 28.04.2024, it has been decided to await the outcome of the investigation conducted by the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and to lift the administrative measures imposed on the individuals concerned within the scope of Article 56 of the FDT and continue the investigation,
