TFF officially announces: The name of the 2024-2025 Super Lig season has been decided

 The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Board of Directors has decided that the remainder of the season in the Trendyol Super Lig will be played as the "2024-2025 Trendyol Super Lig Şamil Ekinci Season."

In a statement from the TFF, it was noted: "The TFF Board of Directors, within the scope of the practice of playing the Trendyol Super Lig in memory of football figures and former national players who have made unforgettable contributions to Turkish football, has decided that the remaining weeks of the league will be played as the '2024-2025 Trendyol Super Lig Şamil Ekinci Season.' Şamil Ekinci, who made valuable contributions to Turkish football, experienced the joy of 4 league championships, 2 Turkish Cups, 5 Presidential Cups, and 2 Prime Ministerial Cups during his 5-season presidency at Trabzonspor. We once again wish God's mercy upon the late Şamil Ekinci and offer our condolences to his family, relatives, loved ones, and the entire sports community, especially Trabzonspor."

WHO IS ŞAMİL EKİNCİ?

Mustafa Şamil Ekinci, originally from Kırşehir, was born on June 2, 1941.

He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul. Coming to Trabzon at a very young age when his family wanted to establish a factory there, and settling in Trabzon after the factory was built, Ekinci continued his business life in our city for many years. In addition to flour, feed, and sack factories, he also opened newspapers and many commercial enterprises in our city.

Having first served as a member of the board of directors under the presidency of Rıfat Dedeoğlu in 1970, Ekinci held positions as a board member, general captain, and vice president until the June 1975 congress where he would become president.

In the 1975-1976 season, his first season as president, Trabzonspor ended the hegemony of Istanbul and earned the title of the first champion to emerge from Anatolia. During the 5 seasons Ekinci served as president, Trabzonspor won 4 league championships, 2 Turkish Cups, 5 Presidential Cups, and 2 Prime Ministerial Cups. Ekinci also served as the Chairman of the Advisory Board between 1983 and 1985. Having also served as Vice President under Faruk Özak's administration in 1995, Trabzonspor won a total of 17 trophies during the periods he served as an executive and president.
