TFF President reacts to 'yellow card' for Barış Alper: An operation is underway
Following a harsh foul on Barış Alper Yılmaz during the Sivasspor-Galatasaray match, the referee's decision to show only a yellow card was harshly criticized by TFF President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu and the Galatasaray management. Hacıosmanoğlu described the referee's decision as an "operation," while Galatasaray Sportif AŞ Deputy Chairman İbrahim Hatipoğlu reacted to the referee's attitude.
League leaders Galatasaray, who were guests of Sivasspor away from home in the 15th week match, defeated their opponent 2-3 in a game where they were reduced to 10 men and fell 1-0 behind, extending the point gap with their closest rival Fenerbahçe to 6.
In the final moments of the match, despite the red-and-white team's goalscorer Manaj committing a harsh foul on Galatasaray's star player Barış Alper Yılmaz, he was only penalized with a yellow card by the match referee Turgut Doman.
While the fact that Manaj's foul on the national star was punished with a yellow card instead of a red card was met with reaction by football fans, Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, speaking to former referee Ahmet Çakar, claimed that an operation was being carried out against him and alleged that Manaj was deliberately not shown a red card.
HACIOSMANOĞLU: I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH FILTH, AN OPERATION IS BEING CARRIED OUT AGAINST ME
In his statement, Hacıosmanoğlu said, "Have you ever seen anything like this in your life? We will not allow anyone to play with our dignity and honor. Whether it's a referee or anyone else... I have never seen such filth.
It is impossible to condone the action taken against our national pride, a brother of ours who plays for the national team.
We will do what is necessary..." he stated.
Although referee Doman showed a yellow card to Manaj despite a VAR intervention, Galatasaray Sportif AŞ Deputy Chairman İbrahim Hatipoğlu reacted to the decision with the statement: "They have already declared that they will openly show hostility towards Galatasaray, but will this hostility continue towards national players as well? A referee who watches an action committed against Barış Alper Yılmaz today and remains silent should hang up his whistle tonight."
STATEMENT RELEASED
Later, a statement was released on the official TFF website. The statement included the following:
We are deeply saddened that Barış Alper Yılmaz, a valuable player of Galatasaray Sports Club and our A National Team, was subjected to an injury as a result of an unsportsmanlike intervention in the Net Global Sivasspor - Galatasaray match played today.
As the Turkish Football Federation, we would like to inform the public that this unfortunate incident will be examined in detail and that we will make every effort to ensure that those responsible are subjected to the necessary disciplinary penalties. The health and safety of every player who is a part of Turkish football is our top priority.
Regards,
Turkish Football Federation
