The Turkish Football Federation has announced that a decision has been made to implement a temporary foreign VAR referee system for the second half of the Süper Lig season.
DECISION ON FOREIGN VAR REFEREES
The Turkish Football Federation has announced that foreign VAR referees will serve for the remainder of the Süper Lig season.
The statement made by the TFF is as follows:
"As a result of the comprehensive analysis and evaluations we have conducted since the day we took office, critical structural changes aimed at the professionalization of our refereeing system are planned to be implemented starting from the second half of the league."
In line with the decisions taken by our Board of Directors:
The Central Referee Committee (MHK) is being restructured, and a corporate structure suitable for the corporatization process will be established. Süper Lig and 1st League operations will be carried out under the management of the MHK President in accordance with the working principles of the Advisory Board, of which our clubs will also be stakeholders. Professional support will be provided by relevant experts within the TFF to strengthen the corporate structure in Süper Lig and 1st League operations. Within the scope of making management processes transparent and professional: An automatic system application based on clear and transparent criteria in referee appointments, sharing of performance evaluations with clubs and systematic objection processes, and professional communication management will be put into effect. The management of lower leagues and amateur leagues will be carried out by other MHK members. As of the past few weeks, it has been observed that the debates surrounding VAR applications have had negative effects on the football climate. In order to prevent this situation, protect the brand value of our football, and ensure more effective use of the VAR system, a decision has been made by the board of directors to implement a temporary foreign VAR referee system for the second half of the Süper Lig. It is considered that this transition process will allow for the development and acquisition of competence for our young referees. Furthermore, our efforts towards our goal of managing Turkish football entirely with domestic referees by maximizing the development and competence of our young referees will continue with the same determination. All necessary revisions will be made to the disciplinary instructions and other instructions so that this structural transformation in the refereeing system will positively affect the football climate. In line with the strategic goals set for the corporate development and increasing the brand value of Turkish football, planned changes in other areas will also be implemented gradually."
