Trabzonspor's European journey comes to an end
In the UEFA Conference League play-off round, Trabzonspor was eliminated from the tournament after losing 5-4 on penalties to Swiss side St. Gallen, following a 1-1 draw in both regular time and extra time.
In the second leg of the UEFA Conference League play-off round, following a 0-0 draw in the first match, Trabzonspor faced Swiss representative St. Gallen on home soil.
The side to find the net in the match played at Papara Park was St. Gallen. The Swiss team brought the score to 1-0 in the 31st minute with a goal from Isaac Schmidt.
The first half of the contest concluded with St. Gallen holding a 1-0 lead.
Trabzonspor found the goal they were looking for in the 52nd minute. Rising well to meet a cross from Borna Barisic, Enis Destan leveled the score with a header.
No further goals were scored during the remainder of regular time, and the match went to extra time.
MATCH WENT TO PENALTIES
Although both teams pushed for a goal during extra time, the deadlock remained, and the match went to a penalty shootout.
In the penalty shootout, Trabzonspor's Denswil, Trezeguet, Barisic, and Draguş converted their penalties, while Savic hit the post with his attempt.
For St. Gallen, Milosevic, Vallci, Cisse, Toma, and Ambrosius all found the back of the net with their spot-kicks.
Defeating Trabzonspor 5-4 in the penalty shootout, St. Gallen secured their place in the UEFA Conference League.
