UEFA opens investigation into that banner

The match between Austria and Poland at the Berlin Olympic Stadium has caused a crisis at EURO 2024.

A "Defend Europe" banner was unfurled in the section where Austrian spectators were seated. UEFA has launched a racism investigation regarding Germany's neighbor. This slogan is known as the slogan of the far-right group called the 'Identitarian Movement' (Identitäre Bewegung).

The movement claims that Europe is threatened by Islamization movements and pursues a policy in favor of preserving Europe's current ethnic structure.

"MY TEAM IS MULTICULTURAL"

The organization, which is under surveillance by the German Office for the Protection of the Constitution, is accused of 'violating the principles of human dignity and democracy'.

The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) stated that they could not understand how the banner was brought into the stadium despite strict controls.

While the federation stated, "Our national team clearly represents tolerance, diversity, and harmony in every area of society," efforts are underway to identify the individuals involved following the criminal complaint.
