Joint statement from referees: 'We are in no state to talk about football'

Following the physical assault committed by MKE Ankaragücü Club President Faruk Koca against referee Halil Umut Meler on the pitch after the 1-1 draw with Çaykur Rizespor in the 15th week of the Süper Lig, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Board of Directors has decided to hold an extraordinary meeting. Additionally, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that a judicial investigation has been launched against those responsible for the incidents.

6 SUSPECTS REFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE

Within the scope of the investigation into the attack on Meler, 6 suspects, including MKE Ankaragücü President Koca, have been referred to the courthouse.

Following the incident, the referees gathered in front of the hospital to support Halil Umut Meler and made statements.

Referee Arda Kardeşler said, "Everyone saw what happened. We are in no state to talk about refereeing or football. Our only thought is for Meler to regain his health. All referees will come together again to make a decision regarding our future."

Mete Kalkavan stated, "The reality that we can make mistakes has been rendered irrelevant. Our priority is our friend's health. We will be followers of this unsustainable environment and the steps to be taken."
