The Greek club announced that Serbian head coach Zeljko Obradovic, who had previously served at the club, has been brought in to fill the seat vacated by Ataman. In the statement made by the club, it was reported that a 3-year contract was signed with the 66-year-old coach, who returned to Panathinaikos after a 14-year hiatus. Obradovic, who coached Panathinaikos between 1999 and 2012, had become one of the club's legendary figures by winning 5 EuroLeague titles, 11 Greek League championships, and 7 Greek Cups.

Zeljko Obradovic took office as the head coach of Fenerbahce in 2013 and remained at the helm of the team for 7 seasons. Under the management of the Serbian coach, the yellow-navy blues won 5 EuroLeague Final Fours, reached 3 EuroLeague Finals, won 1 EuroLeague Championship, 4 Turkish League titles, 3 Turkish Cups, and 3 Presidential Cups.
