Zeynep Sönmez breaks record in world rankings
National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez has achieved the highest ranking of her career, climbing to 67th place in the WTA rankings.
23-year-old national athlete Zeynep Sönmez has once again made a name for herself in the international tennis arena. According to the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, Sönmez has improved her own record by climbing to the 67th spot on the list.
Having reached 69th place last October, Zeynep has managed to surpass that ranking. This marks another historic achievement in Turkish tennis.
Participating in the prestigious Porsche Tennis Grand Prix tournament held in the German city of Stuttgart through the qualifying rounds, Zeynep first defeated Victoria Pohle and Anna-Lena Friedsam in straight sets to advance to the main draw.
In the first round of the tournament, the national athlete managed to defeat the world number 8, Jasmine Paolini, in straight sets; with this victory, she significantly improved her position in the rankings and demonstrated a major breakthrough. In the second round, Zeynep Sönmez faced Leylah Fernandez, who is ranked 25th in the world. She was eliminated from the tournament after losing to her opponent in the deciding set of a highly competitive match.
