National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez secured an impressive victory against her strong opponent at the Miami Open. The young athlete, who entered the tournament from the main draw, advanced to the next round by defeating Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round without dropping a set.
Zeynep, ranked 83rd in the world, faced Haddad Maia, ranked 69th, at the event held in Miami, USA. Displaying a dominant performance on the court, the national tennis player managed to win the match 2-0 with sets of 6-3 and 6-2.
With this result, the 23-year-old athlete, who has written her name into the second round of the WTA 1000 level tournament, will face the tournament's 12th seed, Swiss tennis player Belinda Bencic, in the next round.
