Who is Murat Ongun?
Detained on Wednesday, March 19, Murat Ongun began his journalism career after graduating from the Faculty of Communication. He started serving as an advisor to Ekrem İmamoğlu in 2014.
Murat Ongun was born on April 21, 1975, in Ankara. Originally from Giresun, Ongun completed his primary and secondary education in Giresun. He subsequently graduated from the Ankara University Faculty of Communication.
Journalism career: Ongun began his journalism career in 1996 as a reporter at the Show TV News Center in Ankara, and later worked at the Star TV and ATV news centers in Istanbul. As one of the founders of Habertürk, Ongun worked there as both a broadcaster and an executive.
Advisory period: Ongun began his role as an advisor to Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was elected Mayor of Beylikdüzü in 2014. Following İmamoğlu's election as Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 2019, Ongun was appointed as the spokesperson for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). He held this position until 2022. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Medya A.Ş., a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
