A remarkable project aimed at easing Istanbul's traffic has been announced. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Head of Transportation Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin shared with the public a 120-kilometer bus-priority road project specifically designed for the megacity.

A SEPARATE ROAD FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Stating, "We are planning 120 km of bus-priority roads for Istanbul! The goal is to reduce waiting and travel times in rubber-tired public transport and increase travel quality," Alpkökin noted that work has begun. Alpkökin also conveyed that the route for an 80-kilometer section has been determined and the project phase has commenced.


FIRST STEP TO BE TAKEN THIS YEAR

The first pilot application of the project is planned to be put into operation within 2025. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alpkökin emphasized that this step specifically aims to reduce the time loss experienced by public transport users.
