AKOM issues heavy rain warning for Istanbul: Specific time provided!
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has announced that the heavy rain, which will be seen intermittently throughout the day with a focus on the Anatolian Side, will intensify starting from 18:00.
In the statement made by AKOM, it was stated that the heavy and thundery showers seen in Beykoz and Şile would continue to be effective intermittently throughout the day, primarily on the Anatolian Side.
The statement, which noted that the precipitation would increase in intensity starting from 18:00, recorded that the heavy rain, which will continue until 13:00 tomorrow, could be strong in the eastern and northern parts of the Anatolian Side, including Pendik, Tuzla, Çekmeköy, Beykoz, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, and Şile, as well as in the northern parts of the European Side, including Sarıyer and Eyüpsultan.
The statement expressed that 20 to 45 kilograms of rain per square meter could fall, and explained that the center has warned relevant IBB units to assign personnel, as ponding and flooding in areas below street level may occur during the rainfall, which can be effective regionally in short time frames (30-60 minutes).
Citizens were urged to be careful and take precautions against the negative effects that the heavy rain may cause.
