Alarming fire near Göbeklitepe

The fire broke out in a mountainous area located opposite the rural Örencik neighborhood of the Haliliye district and Göbeklitepe. The fire, which started in a scrubland area in the evening, spread over a large area due to the effect of the wind. Upon reports from citizens, the Şanlıurfa Regional Directorate of Forestry and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the fire zone. The fire, which began with the ignition of grassy areas, also spread to wooded areas. While teams carried out extinguishing efforts, the fire, which started in the Germuş and Örencik neighborhoods, was visible from many points in the city. Efforts to extinguish the fire are continuing. It was reported that a large number of pistachio and olive trees were damaged due to the fire.

The area where the fire broke out is located approximately 7 kilometers away from Göbeklitepe.
