Ali Yerlikaya announced: Heavy penalties for traffic violations are on the way

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya made important statements regarding traffic regulations. Yerlikaya stated that the new Traffic Law will be submitted to the General Assembly of the Parliament in the first week of January. This legislative proposal aims to introduce deterrent penalties against violations that endanger traffic safety.

Serious sanctions will be applied to drivers, especially in cases such as driving under the influence of alcohol, running red lights, and exceeding speed limits. Drivers who test above 0.50 promille on a breathalyzer will receive a 25 thousand lira fine and their driver's licenses will be confiscated for 6 months. In the event of a repeat of this violation, the penalties and the duration of license suspension will increase exponentially.

Drivers who run red lights will lose their licenses if they commit this offense six times within one year. Furthermore, drivers who do not comply with a stop signal will be fined 200 thousand lira. Those who drive without a license will face a 40 thousand lira fine.

A new system is also being introduced for speed violations. Penalties will now be calculated based on the kilometers by which the speed limit is exceeded, and the penalty amount will increase for every 5 kilometers of excess. Convoys that create chaos in traffic and those who block the road will also face an administrative fine of 90 thousand lira.
