Breaking News... Temporary suspension of APP license plate fines!

The Ministry of Interior has made an important decision regarding drivers using so-called non-standard APP license plates. It was announced that administrative fines imposed for these plates have begun to be canceled as of February 27.

Furthermore, it was stated that no fines will be imposed on citizens for plates printed and sealed by the Turkish Drivers and Automobile Federation, even if they do not fully comply with standards.

"SO CITIZENS ARE NOT VICTIMIZED"

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi answered questions from members of the press regarding the issue before the AK Party Group Meeting held at the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Çiftçi said, "The regulation in the Highway Traffic Law regarding this has been in effect since February 27. We have determined that there is significant intensity in the field due to APP plates and that people are forming long queues. We evaluated this situation with our colleagues and, to prevent victimization, we will implement a guidance period until April 1. No fines will be issued during this period; our citizens should rest assured. I have also given instructions for the cancellation of the fines already imposed."

Minister Çiftçi also stated that plates obtained from the Turkish Drivers and Automobile Federation that bear a seal are accepted as valid, adding, "There is no problem with them. We accept these as valid even if they are non-standard; there is no fine."

WARNING OF HEAVY FINES FOR FAKE PLATES

On the other hand, reminding that a 4 thousand TL fine comes into effect if citizens make any changes to the plates they have purchased, Minister Çiftçi pointed out that there are much heavier sanctions for fake plates printed in unauthorized places. He assessed, "A fine of approximately 140 thousand TL is applied for fake plates. This is not just about the license plate; it also carries a serious dimension in terms of public safety, terrorism, and the fight against drugs."

With Minister Çiftçi's words, the details of the new era in APP plate applications have become clear: "We have granted a period until April 1 regarding the modified plates I mentioned so that our citizens are not victimized and do not face difficulties. We will provide guidance until that period. We will not impose any fines in any way. Our citizens should be at ease. I have given instructions to erase the fines that have been applied. When an APP plate is installed, it might have been copied from someone else's vehicle. There is a security dimension to this. It is not in accordance with the standard. When the rules in the regulation are not followed, license plate recognition systems do not recognize them. We do not know who is using them for what purpose. This is already a measure to prevent these."
