Crane terror in Eyüpsultan: Buildings damaged, cars totaled

The incident occurred at midnight in the Alibeyköy neighborhood of Eyüpsultan. Allegedly, the crane, whose driver and passenger were intoxicated, entered the side street uncontrollably. The crane, which only came to a stop after hitting buildings and vehicles, caused a loud noise. Residents living in the buildings struck by the crane panicked, thinking an earthquake had occurred due to the noise. The neighborhood residents, who rushed to the street in fear, immediately reported the situation to the police. While 2 buildings were damaged by the crane's impact, 2 cars were rendered unusable.

"WE ALL SHOUTED BUT IT DID NOT STOP AT ALL"

Varol Güzey, whose building was hit by the crane while he was sitting in his apartment, said, "I was just about to go to bed. The guy entered the street with the crane. I shouted that this crane wouldn't fit through this street. As you can see, it's a narrow street. The guy didn't hear me at all. First, he hit our building, then the neighbor's building, and then the neighbors' cars as he went along. We all shouted, but he didn't stop at all. We went downstairs. The guys had been drinking a lot; they were dead drunk. We called the police at that moment. The police arrived and filed reports. It happened around 00:00. There was a lot of noise. The building shook as if there was an earthquake. I thought it was an earthquake. They entered a street where a taxi wouldn't even fit with a crane. We are pressing charges. We are all suffering losses. May our state punish them. Thank God there were no children on the street. We were terrified," he stated.

Yakup Alkan, one of those whose vehicle was damaged, said, "We were sleeping. We woke up to the noise. We shouted and tried to stop him. He wouldn't stop. I think he was drunk. The neighborhood poured out. There is also damage to the apartment building," he said.

"OUR APARTMENT BUILDING WAS ALSO VERY SERIOUSLY DAMAGED"

Yazal Kurgut Yaşasın, another person whose vehicle was damaged, said, "We live in this apartment building anyway. I heard a noise while I was on the balcony on the upper floor. I saw him dragging the cars, including my own car at the very back. He tried to drag them further and turn, but he couldn't. He got stuck there. Our cars were ruined. Our apartment building was also very seriously damaged. We don't know the individuals. It was a large crane. After the drivers got out, many alcohol bottles were seen inside the vehicle. They couldn't even stand up straight anyway. Everyone in the apartment came out saying there was an earthquake. There was a very serious tremor and noise," she said.

After the crane was removed from the scene, the damaged vehicles were also able to be recovered. Police teams have launched an investigation into the incident.
