Disappeared in Isparta 11 years ago, skull found in Burdur! 2 people arrested, search for the rest of the body continues
A DNA analysis has confirmed that a skull found in a vacant lot in Burdur belongs to Mehmet Çetin, who went missing in Isparta 11 years ago. Two of the suspects detained as part of the investigation have been arrested, and search efforts for the rest of the body are ongoing.
It has been determined that a skull found by citizens in a vacant lot in Burdur in March belongs to Mehmet Çetin, who went missing 11 years ago in the town of Büyükkabaca, located in the Senirkent district of Isparta. The identification was made by comparing DNA samples obtained from the skull with samples taken from family members.
Following the identification, an investigation was launched under the instruction of the Isparta Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and operations were carried out last May in various provinces, including Isparta and Istanbul. During the operations, Mehmet Çetin's ex-wife Derya K., his friend Bayram A., and Bekir B. were detained. It was also learned that T.G. and M.K., who are currently in prison for unrelated crimes, were included in the case file.
SEARCH FOR THE REST OF THE BODY CONTINUES
During searches conducted at the suspects' addresses, an unlicensed pistol and mobile phones were seized. Bayram A. was arrested by the court on May 24, 2025, on charges of "intentional homicide" and sent to prison. Derya K., who had been released under judicial control about a week after the incident, was re-arrested on the same charges. A judicial control decision was issued for Bekir B.
It was stated that so far, only the skull has been recovered as part of the investigation, and the other parts of Mehmet Çetin's body have not yet been reached. It was reported that the special team formed for the case is continuing its work, the incident is being investigated from multiple angles, and searches are ongoing to locate the rest of the body.
