Downpour in Istanbul: Road collapses on Vatan Avenue, taxi flips over
Due to the rainfall that was effective throughout the night in Istanbul, a road collapse occurred on Vatan Avenue in the early hours of the morning. A commercial taxi was involved in an accident due to the collapse.
A road collapse occurred on Adnan Menderes Boulevard, Vatan Avenue, in Fatih, Istanbul, around 05:30 due to heavy rainfall.
A pit approximately 3 meters deep and 6 square meters wide formed on the avenue. During the collapse, which was caused by the rainfall that continued throughout the night and caused flooding in some areas, a commercial taxi with license plate 34 TKH 16, which was in motion, made a sudden maneuver to avoid falling into the pit, causing it to flip over.
Upon notification, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the location of the collapsed road. The driver, A.Y. (62), who was rescued from the taxi with the help of the teams, survived the accident with injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance after the initial intervention by the medical teams who arrived at the scene.
The overturned commercial taxi was removed from the scene with the help of a tow truck. Police teams closed two lanes where the collapse occurred to vehicle traffic, while traffic continued to flow from a single lane. Police teams took extensive security measures at the point where the collapse occurred to prevent another accident.
